DrumLine

The idea behind DrumLine is create a mechanism to allow people who are not drummers can participate in a parade, march etc. and still sound like they are drumming. I got the idea when I was watching the Old Guard do a Fife and Drum march and thought it would be great to allow people to be part of something that fun without requiring them to learn the fife and drum. There would be 3 to 4 major parts to the system some of which are optional depending on the setup and the requirements.

  • Input
  • Communications
  • Output
  • MP3 Sync

The basic idea is that when a master drum is struck all other drums set to receive that master signal will either strike it's own drum with an actuator or display a visible prompt for the human drummer to hit his/her drum. Additionally I would like to have an optional MP3 player that can be synced with a master to allow the playback of music as well.

I've decided to split the project into phases.

1. Build the drum hardware and slave player

2. Write the master and get it running over serial loop back or proxy

3. Set up the master/slave radios

4. Create a prototype master/slave
